Get involved in the largest and most successful program in the Tri-state area.

We are a group of very focused very goal orientated people who want to add talent at every level so that we can all grow our talent base in a family orientated atmosphere. We are one of the few bands in the area that has consistently fielded bands at various levels that are always in the hunt and have been doing so since 1962. We have people from Ireland, Scotland, Canada, The US & Israel on our roster. A desire be a part of what we have going on and contribute that talent and enthusiasm is all that is required. In addition to competing at more contests in the EUSPBA circuit than any band over the last 40+ years we regularly travel to compete in Canada, Ireland and Scotland..

Every Week close to over 100 people gather on Long Island to focus in on what needs to be done to get better. Every Winter Piping and Drumming luminaries from the US, Canada, Ireland & Scotland stop in to help shape our direction.. Collectively we police and reinforce that direction.  Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday something is always on the agenda.

We would love to help cultivate a Drum Majors program if there are interested parties that want to compete on a World Class level..

Eric Stein MC's Concert in Northern Ireland: St. Laurence O'Toole PB give sell out concert in Newcastle, Co. Down

The St. Laurence O'Toole PB , Dublin, gave a sell out concert on Saturday night in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Co. Down. Attended by some 800 enthusiasts from North and South, the audience were thrilled by a spectacular concert programme which included the band and numerous traditional musicians.

The band sounded terrific - fabulous pipe sound augmented by a crisp drum corps. The band played many of Terry Tully's own compositions, traditional Irish and Scottish music , both their MSR sets and a number of medley sets. The band is undoubtedly destined for the prize lists this year in Grade 1 .

The concert was very ably compered by Piper Eric Stein from the Saffron United Pipe Band in Babylon, NY who flew over from NYC for the event. Eric was well spoken and used Pipe Band Trivia to keep the audience engaged during sets. The entire event was hosted by the Banbridge Pipe Band from County Down.

It was a really proud night for members of the IPBA to see their own Grade 1 band in performance at the heart of European piping and being so well received.

The concert was recorded by BBC Northern Ireland - perhaps RTE could be encouraged to take a copy?

Congratulations to Terry Tully and Stephen Creighton for a wonderful effort and to all the players - take a well deserved bow. Now there's just the little matter of the Scottish Championships! Good luck to all.

Saffron United Pipe Band  named 2003 EUSPBA Grade 2 Champions

The Grade 2 band has  captured the title of Eastern United States Pipe Band Association Champions Supreme. We congratulate our co-titlists, the Oran Mor Pipe Band, on our shared victory.

    Sierra Mist Commercial

A few months back members of the Saffron United Pipe Band spent two early morning 10 hour days in Manhattan filming a commercial for Pepsi Cola's Sierra Mist soft drink. It was very interesting to see how they put it all together and even more exciting viewing it as it debuted during this years Super Bowl. We had actors spread through our ranks as we made a parade scene come to life on a cold day in Down town Manhattan. The ad was entitled "Where's Wallace ?" and the  fellow who yelled "Where's Wallace ?" was John Saint Ryan from Belfast. He was the same guy who did the super bowl commercial with the horses playing football last year.  The guy with the air up his kilt was an actor from the Show The King of Queens, Patton Oswalt. There was also a big shot of the brother of the deceased comic actor Chris Farley.

Unfortunately 2 10 hour days shooting the commercial and there are only a few brief peeks of guys really in the Pipe Band. We played a lot of music at an on site studio and nothing was really used.

Click here to see the commercial: Sierra Mist  Slow it down a bunch of times and see how many guys you recognize....

Seems one of the actors had a camera and his pix are on the net.

In grade 2 congratulations to Donald Lindsay and The Oran Mor Pipe Band on winning 1st place in a contest that was at a high standard. Saffron took second and Tullach Ard took 3rd. The Saffron United Drum Corp under 1st year lead tip Richard Baughman did a great job and took best corp honors. We are real happy with our mid Section which is proving to be recognized as one of the best out there. (1st in Ensemble). The Pipe Corp was very happy with our sound and overall performance (even though one of the piping judges did not agree and placed us 5th..)The crowd and most of the other judges were complimentary of our performance. The fact is we took second and are very focused in on putting our best foot forward at the Worlds. Unfortunately we will not be at Maxville as there is a wedding in the band.

Grade 4:

1. 1st Highland Watch (BDC prize as well)
2. Inis Fada
3. Saffron United

Fairhill, Maryland

For mid May it certainly was pretty cold and damp. But, it was a great showcase for the grade 2 band. No other grade 2 bands signed on to compete so we were forced to play in a Grade 1 Grade 2 challenge and compete against City of Washington.  Playing the medley for the first time since last season at Bethlehem it gave us a chance to work on a lot of issues in a competition setting.  We came off the field holding our heads high.

The results were: 1st Place The City of Washington Pipe Band (grade1)

2nd Place:  The Saffron United Pipe Band, Babylon, NY
